The Wreck as an Artificial Reef

We dove the Kled Gaeow wreck to examine its efficacy as an artificial reef.  This old naval vessel was deliberately sunken off the coast of Phi Phi Ley in 24 meters of water.  This is just slightly deeper than can be visited by open water divers, so our students received additional training in deep diving.

Instructor Karen (right) tosses an egg yolk back and forth with the students to demonstrate how the pressure holds the yolk together.
This wreck was sunken less than one year ago, so not much corrosion and growth has taken place yet.
Here is a lionfish.  These fish have venomous spines on the dorsal fin.
I think this is Dom enjoying the wreck.
Even though it is less than a year old, plenty of fish have taken up residence at the wreck.
More snappers.

Some of the students ascending the reference line connecting the wreck to the dive boat.  Natalie is at the bottom and Adam has the blue leggings.
